My nephew is in Miami, staying with his father (my brother). My nephew had been trying to connect with a new psychiatrist, but the waitlist was 6 months. So, he became manic a few days ago. My brother didn’t want to engage the police at all. It was by sending your website and the Miami mobile crisis resources that we got [redacted] evaluated. He’s in the ER, but we hope he gets the care he needs. Thank you for all you’re doing. We are deeply grateful.
I always knew how valuable the services that The Right Response lists on their directory, but to see a mobile unit they list in action twice hit different. I was at a community coffee shop that is in an area with a large transient population nearby. Twice in a packed coffee shop there was a disturbance that many places would’ve called the police for, but the coffee shop reached out to the community organization to de-escalate the situation. I know my comfortability with what transpired would have felt different if policy responded and not someone within the community who I know cares not only about the individual in crisis but also the people who were in the Coffee Shop.
